Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation

The fuel tank isolation valve is used to isolate the fuel tank from the rest of the evaporative emissions system and can be commanded to close or remain
open under a variety of circumstances or driving conditions. The fuel tank isolation valve has an Automatic Shutdown (ASD) relay power feed and is
controlled by a PWM ground signal from the PCM. During periods of operation when the engine is not running (electric-only mode), there is potential
for large quantities of fuel vapor to be generated in the fuel tank that may exceed the capacity of the charcoal canister. The isolation valve is used to
prevent fuel vapors from escaping the system. The isolation valve blocks the vapor path from the tank to the charcoal canister, thereby keeping the
vapors in the tank.
