Power Distribution Center Generator and Battery Cable Fasteners

This service requirement applies only to 1998 model year Dodge Durango (DN) trucks built through January 16, 1998 (MDH 011623).

The fasteners that secure the generator and battery cables to the power distribution center (PDC) on the above listed vehicles, may have been
improperly tightened. To correct this condition, the generator and battery cable PDC fasteners on all involved vehicles must be tightened.

Dealers were notified of this recall via an electronic mail (DMAIL) message dated January 28, 1998. Notification letters are now being mailed to
owners of involved vehicles for which this service has not yet been completed according to our records.

This repair can be completed very quickly and easily with only a torque wrench and two sockets. Because it only takes a few minutes to complete, we
encourage you to consider alternative servicing approaches for this recall. CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO PERFORMING THIS
REPAIR IN THE WRITE-UP AREA AS THE CUSTOMER WAITS, OR SENDING A TECHNICIAN TO THE OWNER'S HOME OR PLACE
OF BUSINESS. This repair does not require hoists or other full service facility special equipment and is a CHRYSLER MOBILE SERVICE
approved repair.

SAFETY RECALL TO TIGHTEN YOUR VEHICLE'S POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER GENERATOR AND BATTERY CABLE
CONNECTIONS
Dear Dodge Durango Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Chrysler Corporation has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1998 Dodge Durango vehicles.
The problem is...
The fasteners that secure the generator and battery cables to the power distribution center on your Durango (identified on the enclosed form), may have
been improperly tightened. This could result in arcing at the connection and may cause a fire in the engine compartment which could be hazardous to
vehicle occupants.
What Chrysler and your dealer will do...
Chrysler will repair your Durango free of charge (parts and labor). To do this, your dealer will tighten the generator and battery cable fasteners. The
work will only take a few minutes to complete. However, additional time may be necessary depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and
processed.

Bring the enclosed Owner Notification Form with you to your dealer. It explains the required service to the dealer.
