Water Pump: Service and Repair
Water Pump
REMOVAL
1.
Drain the cooling system.
2.
Remove air conditioning compressor from engine brackets and set aside. DO NOT discharge the system.
3.
Remove alternator and lay aside.
4.
Remove water pump by disconnecting lower radiator hose, bypass hose and screws (4) holding water pump to engine.
DISASSEMBLY
1.
Remove screws (3) holding pulley to water pump.
2.
Remove screws (10) holding water pump to body. Remove the pump from body. A chisel is required to separate the parts due to the gasket seal.
3.
Clean gasket surfaces on water pump and body.
4.
Remove and discard O-ring gasket and clean O-ring groove.
ASSEMBLY
1.
Apply form-in-place gasket RTV PN-4026070 or equivalent.
2.
Assemble pump to body and tighten screws (10) to 105 in. lbs. (10 Nm) and allow to set before filling and pressurizing system.
3.
Position new O-ring in O-ring groove.
4.
Position water pump pulley to water pump. Install screws (3) and tighten to 105 in. lbs. (10 Nm).
INSTALLATION
1.
Install water pump on engine. Tighten top 3 screws to 250 in.lbs. (30 Nm) and tighten lower screw to 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm).
2.
Reinstall bypass hose and lower radiator hose.
3.
Reinstall alternator and air conditioning compressor.
4.
Refill cooling system.
