    Nippondenso starters are either direct drive or gear reduction type starters. A direct drive starter has an overrunning clutch type starter drive with a
solenoid switch mounted on the starter motor. The mechanical structure of the gear reduction type starter differs from that of the direct drive type, but the
electrical wiring is the same for both types.
