Heater - Poor Performance/Low Output

SUBJECT: POOR HEATER PERFORMANCE

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Customer complaints of poor heater performance may be the result of a misadjusted clip on the blend air door cable. The vehicle will exhibit low air
temperature in the full heat position.

DIAGNOSIS:

Move the temperature control lever all the way to the right to the full heat position. If the temperature control lever does not spring back or springs back
less than 2 mm (.080 inch) perform the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This procedure involves the adjustment of the clip on the blend air door cable.

1.

With the glove box open, carefully remove the instrument panel center air outlet bezel, held by 4 snap clips, which covers the A/C control
assembly.

2.

Remove both A/C control mounting screws.

3.

Pull the A/C control assembly about 7.5 cm (3 inches) out of the instrument panel so that the lever cable attaching point at the rear of the
control is visible. Do not disconnect anything else.

NOTE: It may be necessary to remove the switch module above the heater control to gain access to the cable.

4.

Push the end of the cable toward the right until it stops. This moves the blend air door cable to the full cool position.

5.

Continue to push on the cable with a firm and even pressure until the cable moves 3 to 6 mm (1/8 to 1/4 inch) farther to the right.

6.

Move the temperature control lever to the full heat position. If the control lever has at least 2 mm (.080 inch) of spring back from the end of
the slot, the clip has been successfully repositioned. If the lever still has less than 2 mm (.080 inch) of spring back, repeat steps 4 and 5.

7.

Install the A/C control panel into the instrument panel and torque the 2 mounting screws to 17 inch-pounds.

8.

Move the temperature lever to the full cool position and then back to the full heat position. The spring back should be a minimum of 2 mm
(.080 inch) from the end of the slot. If the spring back exceeds 6 mm (1/4 inch) the temperature lever should be slammed into the full heat
position. This will properly position the clip.

9.

Install the bezel being sure that all 4 clips are attached.
