Cruise Control Relay: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
Relay supplies battery voltage to speed control servo.
OPERATION
When speed control is engaged the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) receives an input from speed control ON switch. In response to the input,
the PCM grounds (energizes) the relay. When energized the relay provides battery voltage to the speed control vacuum and vent solenoids inside
the servo.
CIRCUIT OPERATION
The vehicle speed control relay is located in the junction block. Power for the coil and contact side of the relay is supplied on circuit G5.
This circuit is protected by a 5 Amp fuse located in cavity 14 of the junction block. Power for the fuse is supplied on circuit A21. This circuit is
HOT in the START and RUN position only.
Power for the A21 circuit is supplied to the ignition switch on circuit A1 from the Power Distribution Center (PDC), This circuit is protected by a
20 Amp fuse located in cavity A of the PDC.
Ground for the coil side of the relay is provided on circuit V38. This circuit connects from the relay to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM),
cavity 55.
When the PCM provides the ground for the relay, contacts in the relay close connecting circuits G5 and V32. The V32 circuit connects from the
relay to the stop lamp switch.
