preload.
Axles are retained by means of a "C" washer which is installed into a groove in the inner end of the axle shaft inside the differential unit.
On both these units, a removable stamped steel cover, bolted to the rear of the carrier, permits inspection and service of the differential without
removal of the complete axle assembly from the vehicle.
7 1/4 and 8 1/4 in. axle differentials have balanced side and pinion gears. Any attempt to mix these side or pinion gears with previously
manufactured ones will result in lock up or excessive differential backlash. Side and pinion gears must be replaced as a set.
