Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair
Front
REMOVAL
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove front wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove disc brake caliper and rotor. See: Disc Brake System
Front Wheel Speed Sensor
4. Remove sensor mounting bolts. Retain sensor bolts, they are special and must be reused if in good condition.
5. Disconnect speed sensor from harness wire and remove sensor.
6. If sensor harness wire will also be replaced, remove clips securing sensor wire to control arm and inner fender panel. Then disconnect wire from
main harness connector and remove wire.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Special bolts are used to attach the front sensor. The bolts have a unique shoulder, thread length and surface treatment. Use only factory
replacement bolts. Do not use substitute bolts.
1. If sensor harness wire was replaced, route wire to wheel sensor. Then secure sensor harness wire in clips.
2. Install sensor on splash shield and install mounting bolts. Tighten bolts to 21 Nm (190 inch lbs.).
3. In engine compartment, connect sensor wire to main harness connector. Make sure wire is routed away from hot or rotating underhood
components.
4. Install rotor and caliper assembly.
5. Install wheel and tire assembly.
6. Check sensor wire routing one more time. Turn steering wheel back and forth to verify that wire is clear of steering and suspension components.
Reroute wire if necessary.
7. Remove supports and lower vehicle.
