OPERATION

The backup lamp switch controls a ground signal input to the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) through the backup lamp switch signal circuit.
Based upon the state of this input, the TIPM uses a high side driver to control the flow of battery voltage to the backup lamp bulbs through an output on
the backup lamp feed circuit.

The switch plunger is mechanically actuated by the gearshift mechanism within the transmission, which will depress the switch plunger and close the
switch contacts whenever the REVERSE gear has been selected. The switch has a path to ground at all times, while the TIPM is programmed to provide
an output to the backup lamps whenever the ignition switch is in the ON position.

The backup lamp switch as well as the hard wired inputs and outputs of the switch may be diagnosed using conventional diagnostic tools and procedures.
