In-Vehicle Testing
1980-82 MODELS
Starter Current Draw Test
1.
Run engine until it reaches operating temperature, then shut engine off.
2.
Connect suitable battery-starter tester according to manufacturer's instructions.
3.
Turn variable resistor control knob to off or zero position.
4.
Connect remote starter jumper according to manufacturer's instructions.
5.
Crank engine just long enough to read cranking voltage on voltmeter.
6.
Stop cranking engine, then turn variable resistor control knob until voltmeter reads cranking voltage previously noted. Ammeter should read
180-200 amps on V8-360 engine or 165-180 amps on other engines.
