Beginning February 1, 1983 a new chip resistant coating was incorporated at the Belvidere Assembly Plant on all subject model vehicles.
This material is applied to the lower 10 inches (approximately) of the vehicle.
Unlike the previously used chip resistant coating, which had a textured or rough appearance, this new material is smooth and is almost undetectable.
Combined thickness of primer, paint, and chip resistant coating should be approximately 5.9 mils or more.
All other assembly plants will begin using this new material with the introduction of the 1984 models.
