Removal

1.

Raise the vehicle and remove front wheel.

2.

Disconnect and cap flexible brake line, then remove caliper retaining clips and anti-rattle springs.

3.

Remove caliper from disc by slowly sliding caliper assembly out and away from disc. 

Use some means to support caliper. Do not let caliper

hang from hydraulic line.

With caliper and shoes removed as described previously, place the caliper onto the upper control arm and slowly depress brake pedal, in turn
hydraulically pushing piston out of bore.

2.

Support pedal below first inch of pedal travel to prevent excessive fluid loss.

3.

To remove piston from the opposite caliper, disconnect flexible brake line at frame bracket, from vehicle side where piston has been removed
previously and plug tube to prevent pressure loss. By depressing brake pedal this piston can also be hydraulically pushed out. 

Air pressure should

never be used to remove piston from bore.

4.

Mount caliper in a vise equipped with protector jaws. 

Excessive vise pressure will distort caliper bore.

5.

Remove the dust boot.

6.

Insert a suitable tool such as a small, pointed wooden or plastic object between the cylinder bore and the seal and work seal out of the groove in
the piston bore. 

A metal tool such as a screwdriver should not be used since it can cause damage to the piston bore or burr the edges of the

seal groove.

Assembly

1981-87

1. Dip new piston seal in clean brake fluid, then work seal gently into groove (using clean fingers) until seal is properly seated, ensuring seal is not

twisted or rolled. 

Old seals should never be reused.

2. Coat new piston dust boot with clean brake fluid, leaving generous amount inside boot.
