Stop Lamp Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect stop light switch electrical connector, then remove switch assembly attaching screw and switch from brake pedal bracket.
3. Install new switch and connect switch electrical connector. Torque attaching bolt to 75 inch lbs.
4. If adjustment is required, proceed as follows:

a. Loosen switch assembly to brake pedal bracket attaching screw and slide switch assembly away from brake pedal blade.
b. Depress brake pedal and allow it to return freely. Do not pull brake pedal back at any time.
c. Place a .130 inch (3.275 mm) spacer gauge on brake pedal blade.
d. Slide switch assembly toward pedal blade until switch plunger is fully depressed against spacer gauge without moving the pedal.
e. Torque stop light switch attaching screw to 75 inch lbs.

Remove spacer and ensure stop light switch does not prevent full brake pedal return.
