This service applies to the following models only:
1983 model year vehicles with 2.2L 2BBL carbureted engines equipped with solekickers:
^
High altitude - automatic transmission with air conditioning only.
^
Shelby Charger - Federal and California and high altitude.
1984 model year all with 2.2L 2BBL carbureted engines built prior to October 3, 1983 (MDH 10-03-XX). The date stamp on top surface of solekicker
mounting bracket must be 2283-2293 (clean point) or lower. Date stamp can be seen by removing carburetor air cleaner crossover.
Symptom/Condition, Diagnosis & Parts Required Information
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Engine will not go to fast idle speed after a hot restart, which will result in a slow and rough idle.
Vehicles with air conditioning will exhibit no A/C idle up speed, which will also result in a slow and rough idle.
DIAGNOSIS
Remove air cleaner crossover.
Ground the carburetor switch with a jumper wire.
Start engine and allow to come to full operating temperature
Turn engine off and then restart. Observe engine rpm. It should be at least 100 rpm higher than curb idle.
The solekicker function can also be verified further while on hot restart fast idle by intermittently disconnecting and connecting the solekicker vacuum
connector at the carburetor vacuum connection near the carburetor electrical connector. The engine rpm should rise and fall as the vacuum connection is
disconnected and connected. If the solekicker fails to respond as described above it must be replaced.

If solekicker is stamped "4" use Package PN 4293882 which contains the following components:
