With the weight of the vehicle off of the front wheels and wheel assemblies hanging free, measure the amount of lateral movement at the top of the
rebound retainer by pushing on the strut assembly from under the fender. This measurement should not exceed 3/16" (4.8 mm) (Figure 2).
Consider replacing a single path strut mount only if it meets one or more of the following:

The vertical movement as described exceeds 1/2" (12.7mm).

Lateral movement exceeds 3/16" (4.8 mm).
^
The rubber in the mount has separated.
