Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
Vehicle Distance Sensor
Location
Sensor mounted in transaxle extension housing.
Purpose
PCM uses sensor input with input from Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) to determine whether the vehicle is decelerating or stopped at idle.
^ During closed throttle deceleration, (slower signals received from sensor), PCM actuates IAC motor to maintain desired MAP sensor value.
^ During idle, (no signals being received from sensor), PCM actuates Idle Air Control (IAC) motor to maintain desired engine idle speed.
PCM also stores input as distance traveled.
Operation
PCM supplies 9.0 volt regulated reference voltage.
Sensor generates 8 voltage pulses per axle shaft revolution.
