Spirit L4-153 2.5L SOHC Flex Fuel (1995)
Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
Replacement of the front drive hub and bearing can be done without having to remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle.
1. Remove cotter pin, hub nut and spring washer from end of driveshaft.
2. Loosen hub nut while vehicle is on ground with brakes applied.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove hub nut and washer from stub axle.
5. Remove tire and wheel assembly.
6. Disconnect tie rod end from steering arm using suspension puller tool No. C-3894-A, or equivalent.
7. Remove clamp nut securing ball joint stud into steering knuckle.
8. Remove caliper guide pin bolts then the caliper. Suspend caliper from frame using suitable wire.
9. Remove brake disc from vehicle.
10. Separate steering knuckle from ball joint stud.
11. Pull steering knuckle assembly out and off driveshaft. Do not separate inner driveshaft joint. Do not allow driveshaft to hang from inner joint,
support using suitable wire.
12. Remove four hub and bearing assembly mounting bolts.
13. Remove hub and bearing assembly from steering knuckle.
14. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install new hub and bearing assembly in steering knuckle and tighten screws in an alternating pattern to specifications. Knuckle and bearing
mounting surfaces must be smooth and free of foreign material and nicks.
b. Install new seal using seal installer tool No. C-4698, or equivalent.
c. During any service procedures where knuckle and driveshaft are separated, clean seal and wear sleeve, then lubricate both parts. Lubricate full
circumference of seal and wear sleeve with Mopar Multi-Purpose Lubricant part No. 4318063, or equivalent, as shown.
