Removal

REMOVAL

WARNING:  On vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the airbag system before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, or
instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the
airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system.
Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment and serious or fatal injury

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the glove box from the instrument panel.
3. Remove the steering column opening cover from the instrument panel.
4. Remove the center bezel from the instrument panel.
5. Remove the center footwell cover from the instrument panel.
6. If equipped, remove the tachograph from the instrument panel.
7. Remove the gear selector cover from the instrument panel.
8. Remove the nuts (4 and 8) and disconnect the positive lead (6), ground lead (7) and control circuit connector (5) from the positive temperature

coefficient (PTC) heater unit (1).

9. Remove the two screws (3 and 9) and remove the PTC heater unit from the air distribution housing (2) by pulling it straight out of the housing.

Installation

INSTALLATION

1. Install the positive temperature coefficient (PTC) heater unit (1) into the air distribution housing (2) and install the two screws (3 and 9). Tighten

the screws to 2 Nm (17 in. lbs.).

2. Connect the control circuit connector (5), positive lead (6) and ground lead (7) to the PTC heater unit and install the nuts (4 and 8). Tighten the

nuts securely.

3. Install the gear selector cover.
4. If equipped, install the tachograph.
5. Install the center footwell cover.
6. Install the center bezel.
7. Install the steering column opening cover.
8. Install the glove box.
