Front Cross-Member: Service and Repair
Removal

REMOVAL

1. Remove the washer fluid reservoir.
2. Attach engine lifting device.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Remove the wheels and wheelhouse covers.
5. Separate the shock absorber strut from the body.
6. Disconnect the brake pad wear indicator electrical connectors.
7. Disconnect the rpm sensor electrical connectors.
8. Separate the brake line connection (13) and separate the brake lines (12).

NOTE: Collect the escaping brake fluid in a suitable container.

9. Remove the bolt (11) and separate the universal joint (10) on the steering gear.

10. Unclip the battery ground line (9) from the bracket.
11. Remove the nut (7) and separate the retaining clamp (6) of the high pressure line (8).
12. Drain the power steering fluid.
13. Remove the nut of mounting clamp to the frame type integral support (2) and separate the high pressure line (8) and return line from the frame type

integral support (2).

14. Separate the high pressure line (8) and return line on the steering gear.
15. Support the transmission with a suitable lifting device.
16. Remove the bolts (3) and (4) and remove the transmission crossmember (5).
17. Separate the engine mounts from the crossmember.
18. Using a grease pencil or equivalent, mark the position of the crossmember to the body to aid installation.
19. Support the crossmember with a suitable lifting device.
20. Remove the bolts (1)

21. Remove the bolts (1, 3) and lower the crossmember.
