Wiper Blade: Description and Operation
Description
Front
FRONT
The front wiper blades on this vehicle are a bracketless or beam-type design. Each front wiper blade is secured by an integral latching pivot block to a
bracket formation on the tip of each wiper arm, and rests on the glass near the base of the windshield when the wipers are not in operation. The wiper
blade consists of the following components:
-
Element (4) - The wiper element or squeegee is the resilient rubber member of the wiper blade that contacts the glass. The upper half of the front
wiper blade element extends above the flexor and has an airfoil-like cross-section.
-
Flexor (1) - The flexor (also known as the beam) is a rigid, precisely curved spring steel component running along the length of the wiper element
on each side. The wiper blade flexor has a satin black finish applied.
-
Pivot Block (2) - The pivot block is a molded black plastic component secured near the center of each wiper blade that secures the blade to the
bracket on the tip of each wiper arm and upon which the blade pivots. The pivot block includes two integral latch release tabs (3) that allow the
wiper blade to be easily removed from the wiper arm.
This vehicle has unequal length front wiper blades with non-replaceable rubber elements (squeegees). The left (driver) side wiper blade is 66.0
centimeter (26 inches), and the right (passenger) side wiper blade is 61.0 centimeters (24 inches). The front wiper blades cannot be adjusted or
repaired and, if ineffective, worn, or damaged the entire wiper blade unit must be replaced.
Rear
REAR
The rear wiper blades on this vehicle are a bracketless or beam-type design. Each rear wiper blade is secured by an integral latching pivot block to a
bracket formation on the tip of each wiper arm, and rests near the base of the rear door glass when the wipers are not in operation. The wiper blade
consists of the following components:
-
Element (4) - The wiper element or squeegee is the resilient rubber member of the wiper blade that contacts the glass.
-
Flexor (1) - The flexor (also known as the beam) is a rigid, precisely curved spring steel component running along the length of the wiper element
on each side.
