Installation

INSTALLATION

WARNING:  To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the supplemental restraint system before attempting
any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor, or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect
and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further
diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the supplemental restraint system. Failure to take the proper precautions could result
in accidental airbag deployment.

WARNING:  To avoid serious or fatal injury, never strike or drop the occupant restraint controller, as it can damage the impact sensor or
affect its calibration. The occupant restraint controller contains the impact sensor, which enables the system to deploy the supplemental
restraints. If an occupant restraint controller is accidentally dropped during service, the module must be scrapped and replaced with a new
unit. Failure to observe this warning could result in accidental, incomplete, or improper supplemental restraint deployment.

1. Carefully position the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) (2) onto the ORC bracket on the floor panel transmission tunnel (4) under the

instrument panel. When the ORC is correctly positioned, the bottom of the housing will fit flush with the bracket and the orientation arrow on the
label on top of the housing will be pointed forward in the vehicle.

2. Install and tighten the three screws that secure the ORC to the ORC bracket on the floor panel transmission tunnel. Tighten the screws to 10 Nm

(89 in. lbs.).

3. Reconnect the two vehicle wire harness connectors (3) to the ORC connector receptacles located on the right facing side of the module. Be certain

that the locks on both connectors are each fully engaged.

4. If the vehicle is so equipped, reinstall the optional hot air duct to the passenger compartment under the instrument panel to the right of the center

support (1).

5. Reinstall the center footwell cover over the instrument panel center support.
6. Do not reconnect the battery negative cable at this time. The supplemental restraint system verification test procedure should be performed

following service of any supplemental restraint system component.

NOTE:  If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) has been replaced with a new unit, it will be necessary to initialize the new ORC. In order to
function properly, the ORC must be programmed for the correct standard and optional supplemental restraint system components installed in the
vehicle. To initialize the ORC, a diagnostic scan tool is required. Refer to the appropriate diagnostic information.
