Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Description and Operation

The Viper uses shock absorbers which include the coil springs for the rear suspension of the vehicle. This type of shock absorber is called a coil-over
shock absorber. The shock absorbers used on the Viper are supplied by Koni. The top of the shock absorber is mounted to the upper frame rail of the
vehicle using a rubber isolator bushing pressed into the upper mounting eye on the shock absorber. The bottom of the shock absorber is mounted to the
lower control arm using the clevis on the bottom of the shock absorber. Attachment of the clevis to the lower control arm is by a mounting bracket which
is bolted to the lower control. This mounting bracket contains the isolator bushing for the clevis. The clevis is also used as the lower seat for the coil
spring. The upper seat is removable for shock and spring service.
