Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair
Tone Wheel
Removal
FRONT TONE WHEEL
NOTE: Review all Warnings and Cautions. See: Service Precautions/Brakes - Warning
1. Raise and support vehicle. See: Maintenance
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly. See: Maintenance/Wheels and Tires/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Tires and Wheels - Removal
3. Remove brake caliper from knuckle and brake rotor and hang out of the way. See: Disc Brake System/Brake Pad/Service and Repair/Removal and
Replacement/Brake Pads - Removal
4. Using hex wrench or driver socket, remove bolt (5) retaining tone wheel (4) to hub and bearing (2).
5. Remove tone wheel.
Installation
FRONT TONE WHEEL
1. Make sure mating surface of tone wheel and hub and bearing is clean.
2. Install tone wheel (4) through seal (1) on rear of knuckle (3) and against rear of hub and bearing assembly (2).
3. Using same bolt or identical replacement bolt (5), mount tone wheel to hub and bearing. Tighten bolt to 17 Nm (150 in. lbs.).
4. Verify proper wheel speed sensor-to-tone wheel air gap. See: Antilock Brakes / Traction Control Systems/Specifications
5. Install brake caliper. See: Disc Brake System/Brake Pad/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Brake Pads - Installation
6. Install tire and wheel assembly See: Maintenance/Wheels and Tires/Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement/Tires and Wheels - Installation.
Progressively tighten the wheel mounting nuts in the proper sequence to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Road test vehicle to ensure proper operation of base and antilock brakes.
