Water Pump: Service and Repair
On engines equipped with a serpentine drive belt, the water pump and fan drive assembly will operate in the reverse rotation of an engine not
equipped with a serpentine drive belt. Water pumps for use on these engines can be identified by the letters REV cast into the pump body, while
fan components can be identified by the word REVERSE stamped on the fan drive and on the inner side of the fan.
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Drain cooling system and disconnect radiator and heater hoses from pump.
3.
Remove drive belts. On some models it will be necessary to remove alternator front bracket and place alternator aside, without
disconnecting wires.
4.
Remove fan shroud attaching bolts, then remove fan, hub and shroud.
5.
Remove water pump and gasket.
6.
Reverse procedure to install.
