This type of converter, Fig. 15, changes carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) into water vapor (H2O) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The
catalyst in the converter which produce the chemical change are platinum, and palladium included as a fine coating on the substrate (beads of
alumina).
