Power Steering Pump Overhaul
Disassembly
DISASSEMBLE

1. Remove pump mounting brackets as necessary, then the reservoir filler cap and drain fluid.
2. Reinstall filler cap, then clean exterior of pump assembly in a suitable solvent.
3. Remove pump pulley using tool No. J-29785-A, then clamp front hub in a suitable vise with pump shaft facing downward. Ensure not to tighten
vise as to cause damage to bearing.
4. Remove pump union and mounting bolts, then discard seals and O-rings.
5. Rock reservoir back and forth to loosen O-ring, then remove reservoir and O-ring.
6. Remove end plate retaining ring, then insert a suitable tool through the 1/8 inch diameter hole in housing opposite flow control hole and compress
retaining ring. Remove retaining ring by inserting screwdriver under ring and twisting.
7. Remove end plate by tapping with a suitable mallet, if necessary, then remove pump from vise.
8. Remove flow control valve and spring, then turn pump over and allow valve and spring to slide from bore.
9. Tap end of pump shaft using a suitable mallet to allow pressure plate, pump ring, rotor assembly and thrust plate to be removed as an assembly.
10. Remove snap ring from pump shaft, then the rotor and thrust plate. Do not drop rotor blades.
11. Remove end plate O-rings and shaft seal, ensuring not to damage pump body and bore.
