NEW PROCEDURE FOR REFILLING TRANSFER CASE
Information
A new procedure has been developed for refilling 1982-84 Jeep/Eagle transfer cases after repairs requiring disassembly of the unit.
The transfer case fluid level is checked and adjusted after the vehicle has been driven for 8-10 miles. This ensures a thorough distribution of fluid
throughout the transfer case and will result in a more accurate fluid level. The new procedure is as follows.
Fluid Refill Procedure
1.
Fill transfer case to bottom edge of fill plug hole with required fluid and install fill plug.
2.
Drive vehicle 8-10 miles to circulate fluid throughout transfer case.
3.
Remove fill plug and top off transfer case to bottom edge of fill plug hole. Install and tighten fill plug to 34 N-m (25 ft.lbs.) torque.
NOTE:
In addition to the new refill procedure, the transfer case fluid capacities have been increased as indicated below:
