EXHAUST - 3.0L AND 4.0L - ALUMINIZED MUFFLER CORRODES PREMATURELY
LIGHT TRUCK:
1990-93 AEROSTAR
ISSUE:
The aluminized muffler may corrode prematurely on some vehicles. This occurs because the aluminized cold rolled muffler material may be susceptible
to rust under certain conditions.
ACTION:
If service is required, replace the existing muffler and outlet pipe assembly with a stainless steel muffler and outlet pipe assembly which is more
corrosion resistant. Refer to the 1992/1993 Aerostar Service Manual, Section 09-00, for the removal and installation procedures.

On all 1990/1993 Aerostars with 3.0L engines, replace the muffler and outlet pipe assembly (F39Z-5230-B) without changing the fuel tank heat
shield.

On all 1993 Aerostars with 4.0L engines produced after 2/1/93, replace the muffler and outlet pipe assembly (F39Z-5230-B) without changing the
fuel tank heat shield.

On all 1990/1993 Aerostars with 4.0L engines produced before 2/1/93, replace the muffler and outlet pipe assembly (F39Z-5230-B) and the fuel tank
heat shield (FO9Z-9A031-H)
