Dear Owner:
Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1990 Aerostar Vans and Wagons.
Safety Defect
An "internal fluid leak" in the brake master cylinder
may occur resulting in excessive brake pedal travel and loss of rear wheel braking. This could result in increased stopping
distances and possibly a crash.
Problems
The condition is most likely to occur during cold
weather (less than about +40 degrees F).
Symptoms
Excessive brake pedal travel may be noticed during
light and prolonged brake applications, such as when descending a long hill or when making a slow, gradual stop. Should
the condition occur on your Aerostar, the red "brake" warning light then the yellow "anti-lock" light on the instrument panel
would light up, but may not stay illuminated.
Repairs
At no cost to you, we will inspect the brake master
cylinder and replace it if necessary.
