IDLE ROUGH - NOISE ENGINE (4.9L)
LIGHT TRUCK 1977-84 F SERIES, BRONCO, ECONOLINE
A rough idle, occurring when there is a vacuum leak or an engine noise, may be caused by the following:
The EGR gasket may be deteriorated or the EGR spacer mounting flange may be warped. This will cause a vacuum leak and/or an exhaust noise at the
EGR valve.
Check the EGR valve gasket/spacer area for a leak. If there is a leak, perform the following:
^
Remove the EGR valve and inspect the gasket. If the gasket is damaged, replace it with a new gasket (part number E5DZ-9D476-A).
^
Inspect the EGR spacer flange for flatness with a straight edge. If the flange is warped, replace the spacer with a new spacer (part number E4TZ-
9A589-H).
