Choke Plate: Adjustments
Choke Plate Pulldown Adjustment
Models W/Piston Type Choke
1. Bend a 0.026 inch diameter wire gauge at a 90 degree angle approximately 1/8-inch from one end.
2. Insert the bent end of the gauge between the choke piston slot and the right hand slot in choke housing.
3. Rotate the choke piston lever counterclockwise until gauge is snug in the piston slot.
4. Exert a light pressure on choke piston lever to hold the gauge in place, then use a drill with a diameter equal to the specified edge of choke plate
and carburetor bore to check clearance.
5. To adjust the choke plate pulldown clearance, bend the choke piston lever as required to obtain specified setting.
Note: When bending the lever, be careful not to distort the piston link. Install the choke thermostatic spring housing and gasket.
6. Set the housing to specifications.
Models W/Diaphragm Type Choke
1. Temporarily rotate choke housing rich to lightly close choke plate, then increase an additional 90 degrees.
2. On all models, activate pulldown motor by applying external vacuum source.
3. Close choke plate as far as possible without forcing it.
4. On all models, using drill of specified size, check clearance between lower edge of choke plate and the air horn wall.
5. Adjust as necessary by bending choke diaphragm link.
6. Reconnect pulldown motor vacuum tube.
