LIGHT TRUCK:
1987 E SERIES, F SERIES, BRONCO
ISSUE:
An accessory drive belt that jumps off the power steering pump pulley may be caused by a mis-aligned power steering bracket.
ACTION:
To correct this, check to see if the accessory drive belt rubs on the back edge of the tensioner pulley. If the belt rubs, shim the power
steering bracket with a flat washer and install a new accessory drive belt using the following service procedure.
NOTE:
Refer to the accessory drive belt application chart on this page for the correct accessory drive belt service part number.

1.
Remove the bolt that attaches the A/C-power steering bracket to the engine cylinder head, Figure 18.
2.
Loosen two (2) bolts and two (2) nuts that attach A/C-power steering bracket to the engine block, Figure 18.
3.
Install a flat washer (44877-S2) between the bracket and the engine cylinder head, Figure 18.
4.
Install the bolt removed in Step 1 and torque to 24-35 ft.lbs. (33-47 N-m).
5.
Tighten the bolts and nuts loosened in Step 2. Torque to 38-55 ft.lbs. (52-75 N-m).
6.
Install a new accessory drive belt.
CAUTION: Do not release the belt tensioner suddenly during belt installation, because damage may occur.
