Crankshaft: Testing and Inspection
Cleaning
CAUTION: Handle the crankshaft with care to avoid possible damage to the finished surfaces.
Clean the crankshaft with solvent. Blow out all oil passages with compressed air.
Inspection
Inspect the main and connecting rod journals for cracks, scratches, grooves, scores or rough finish. Inspect the crankshaft rear oil seal and crankshaft
front oil seal surface for nicks, sharp edges, or burrs that might damage the crankshaft rear oil seal and crankshaft front oil seal during installation or
cause premature crankshaft rear oil seal and crankshaft front oil seal wear.
Crankshaft Runout
Set the crankshaft on V-blocks and use Dial Indicator with Bracketry TOOL-42O1-C or equivalent to measure the crankshaft runout.
Maximum crankshaft runout is 0.03 mm (0.0012 inch). If the crankshaft runout exceeds specification, replace the crankshaft
Crankshaft End Play

2. Install Dial Indicator with Bracketry TOOL-42O1-C or equivalent so stylus contact point rests against crankshaft flange and indicator center axis
is parallel to crankshaft center axis.
