Brake Rotor/Disc: Flow of Diagnosis
^
Brake pulsation (brake roughness) that is present during brake application is caused by;
-
foreign material build-up
-
contamination on the rotor surface
-
uneven lateral runout.
^
For diagnostic procedures, refer to Brakes - System Diagnosis. See: Testing and Inspection
^
Each time the brakes are serviced, the front and rear disc brake rotors should be checked for scoring, runout, parallelism and thickness.
-
Front and rear disc brake rotor scoring and runout may be checked with the front and rear disc brake rotors either on or off the vehicle.
-
To check parallelism and thickness, the front or rear disc brake caliper must be removed.
^
Disc brake rotor specifications are listed in Specifications.
^
If there is foreign material build-up found on disc brake rotor or brake shoe and lining surfaces, hand sand front disc brake rotor and brake shoe
and lining.
PROCEDURES
Refer to Brakes - System Diagnosis. See: Testing and Inspection
Refer to Testing and Inspection - Procedures for rotor runout/parallelism/thickness tests.
