4. Use a pair of snap ring pliers to remove the retaining ring.
5. Remove the spring compressor to release the pressure on the reverse clutch return spring assembly. Remove the reverse clutch return spring
assembly.
6. Remove the reverse clutch piston assembly with its integral seals.
7. Clean all parts thoroughly in a clean solvent and blow dry with moisture-free compressed air. To clean the friction plates, wipe them off with a
lint-free cloth.
NOTE: The clutch plates should not be cleaned in a vapor degreaser or with any other type of detergent solution.
8. Inspect the parts for damage and wear:

clutch plates
^
piston and seals
^
bushings
^
check ball in drum
^
drum outer surface band contact area
^
piston bore
Assembly
1. Soak the internal spline clutch plates in clean transmission fluid for 15 minutes before assembly.
