AFTER PAD REPLACEMENT - SERVICE TIP

NOTE: 

THIS TSB ARTICLE ONLY APPLIES TO POLICE, DEALER SPECIAL ORDER (DSO) TAXI, NATURAL GAS VEHICLE (NGV), GULF
COAST COUNTRY (GCC), MEXICO, AND LIMOUSINE VEHICLES.

ISSUE:
Increased brake pedal efforts may result from the use of (F6AZ-2001-CA) brake pads versus the original equipment brake pads. This condition may be
due to the new longer life material which may not interface well with grooved rotors, rotors machined at a high feed rate, or rotors machined with a dull
tool bit.

ACTION: 
When replacing front brake pads, only machine the rotors if additional symptoms exist. Perform only on-vehicle rotor machining using a sharp tool bit.
Refer to the Service Procedure listed.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Determine if the front brake pads and/or rotors require replacement. Refer to the appropriate Service Manual, Section 06-00, for details.

2.

If installing new front Brake Pads (F6AZ-2001-CA), machine the front rotors only if:

the rotor is heavily grooved, or

^

the vehicle exhibits excessive roughness while braking caused by the rotors

3.

The Service Manual requires the use of the Rotunda On-The-Car Lathe or equivalent and the use of a sharp cuffing tool bit to ensure a quality
surface. If the rotors are below minimum thickness, or would be after machining, replace the rotors.
