Fluid - A/T: Service and Repair
FLUID CHANGE
NOTE: Normal maintenance and lubrication requirements do not necessitate periodic fluid changes. If vehicle accumulates 5,000 or more miles per
month or it is used in continuous stop and go service, change fluid every 30,000 miles.
NOTE: When filling a dry transmission and converter, install approximately 12 quarts of specified fluid. Start engine, shift the selector lever through
all ranges and place it at P position. Check fluid level and add enough to raise the level in the transmission to the F (full) mark on the dipstick.
1. When a partial drain and refill is required, proceed as follows:
2. Loosen oil pan bolts and allow pan to drain.
3. Working from rear and both sides of transmission oil pan, remove bolts, allowing pan to drop and drain slowly.
4. Remove and clean pan and replace screen.
5. Place a new gasket on pan and install pan and filter/screen.
6. Add three quarts of specified fluid to transmission.
7. Run engine at a fast idle until it reaches normal operating temperature.
8. Shift selector lever through all ranges and then place it in P position.
9. Add fluid as required to bring the level to the full mark.
