Reverse Clutch
DISASSEMBLE
Exploded View Of Reverse Clutch
1. Remove No. 2 bearing, then the selective clutch pack retaining ring.
2. Remove clutch pack.
3. Install direct clutch spring compressor tool No. T81P-70235-A or equivalent onto reverse clutch. Tighten enough to compress return spring, then
remove retaining ring.
4. Remove piston, return spring, and thrust ring. If necessary use light air pressure to remove piston.
5. Remove clutch piston, inner, and outer piston seals.
ASSEMBLE
1. Install new seals on clutch piston. Piston check ball must be present and moving freely.
2. Install clutch piston as follows:
a. Coat piston seals, clutch drum, sealing area, and seal protector with petroleum jelly.
b. Install reverse clutch inner seal protector T80L-77403-B and reverse clutch outer seal protector T80L-77403-A, or equivalents, in clutch drum.
c. Position piston and push it to bottom of drum using even thumb pressure.
3. Install piston thrust ring and piston return spring. Dished side of spring must face toward piston.
4. Using suitable tools, install wave snap ring, points down.
5. Install front pressure plate, clutch pack, and rear pressure plate. Position stepped side of front pressure plate down with flat side toward clutch
pack and rear pressure plate flat side toward clutch pack.
6. Install clutch pack retaining ring and check clearance between ring and pressure plate, holding pressure plate downward while checking clearance.
a. Clearance should be 0.040-0.059 inch.
b. If clearance is not within specification, selective snap rings are available in the following thicknesses, 0.060-0.064 inch, 0.074-0.078 inch,
0.088-0.092 inch and 0.102-0.106 inch.
7. Check clutch for proper operation using air pressure. The clutch should be heard and felt to apply smoothly without air leakage.
8. Install No. 2 thrust washer or needle bearing.
