Barometric Pressure Sensor: Description and Operation
BAROMETRIC (BARO) PRESSURE SENSOR
Barometric (BARO) Pressure Sensor
The BARO pressure sensor is a variable capacitor sensor that processes a signal indicating atmospheric pressure. This allows the PCM to compensate for
altitude. The PCM uses this information to calculate injection timing and glow plug control. At higher altitudes, glow plug on time is increased to reduce
start-up smoke. The BARO sensor is located behind the lower steering column opening finish panel.
A BARO sensor concern results in an out-of-range signal to the PCM.
