Tie Rod: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
NOTE: Replace the steering tie rod if the ball stud is loose in the steering control ball stud socket or the rod is bent. Replace the front suspension
steering ball stud dust seal if any nicks, cuts or tears are present. Do not attempt to straighten a bent rod.
1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist, with the wheels in the straight-ahead position.
2. Remove the (A) cotter pin and the (B) nut from the (C) tie rod end on the (D) steering sector shaft arm drag link. Discard the cotter pin.
3. Remove the (A) ball stud from the (B) steering sector shaft arm drag link, using (C) Pitman Arm Puller.
4. Loosen the (A) bolts on the (B) tie rod adjusting sleeve clamp. Count the number of turns required to remove the tie rod end from the tie rod
adjusting sleeve clamp.
5.Remove the tie rod.
