Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
With Retainer Plate
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the flywheel.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the transmission from the jack.
3. Use the Rear Crankshaft Slinger Remover and the Impact Slide Hammer to remove the crankshaft oil slinger.
4. Use the Rear Crankshaft Seal Remover and the Impact Slide Hammer to remove the crankshaft rear oil seal.
5. Remove the oil pan.
6. Remove the crankcase bolts and the crankshaft rear oil seal retainer plate.
INSTALLATION
1. Clean and inspect the mating surface.
CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the aluminum retainer plate. These
tools cause scratches and gouges, which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
