Camshaft Gear/Sprocket: Testing and Inspection
Gear Backlash
1. Remove the engine timing cover.
2. Position the Dial Indicator tip on the sprocket tooth of the sprocket to be checked.
NOTE: Keep the other sprockets from moving while performing this procedure.
3. Rotate the sprocket to remove backlash and zero in the Dial Indicator.
4. If the reading exceeds service limits, replace the drive gear.
