SQUEAK/CREAK NOISE FROM PASSENGER SIDE
ENGINE MOUNT - VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN
12/19/2003 AND 3/21/2004

ISSUE
Some 2005 Escape 3.0L vehicles built between 12/19/2003 and 3/21/2004, may exhibit a squeak/creak noise from the passenger side engine mount. The
noise primarily occurs in cold temperatures during engine torque events (engine start-up, transmission engagement and throttle tip-in). The noise is due
to the rubber cap rubbing against the steel can of the engine mount.
ACTION
Remove the existing rubber cap from the passenger side engine mount and replace with a revised wax-impregnated rubber cap. Refer to the following
Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1.
Disconnect the battery.
2.
Support the engine as follows:
a.
Install the 3-bar engine support fixture 303-F072 (or equivalent).
b.
Attach a universal engine lift eye 303-050 or equivalent to the threaded boss in the engine block located behind the generator using an M12
bolt. Torque to 83 lb-ft (112 N.m).
c.
Disconnect and position connectors C110 and C133 out of the way to prevent damage.
d.
Using a lift chain from the 303-D89 spreader bar (or equivalent) attach it from the engine lift eye to the 3-bar engine support fixture.
e.
Remove the weight of the engine from the mount.
3.
Remove ground G107 from the passenger side engine mount bracket.
4.
Remove the three (3) nuts and one (1) bolt from the engine mount bracket.
5.
Remove the rubber cap from the engine mount.
6.
Install a new wax-impregnated rubber cap on the engine mount.
7.
Reinstall the engine mount bracket and torque the nuts to 41 lb-ft (55 N.m) and the bolt to 66 lb-ft (90 N.m).
8.
Reconnect G107 and torque to 89 lb-in (10 N.m).
9.
Remove engine support equipment.
10.
Reconnect the battery.
