* When operating at sustained high speeds the tyre pressures should be increased as follows:
Tyre ratingSpeed specificationsbarlb/in2
S and TFor every 10 km/h (6 mph) above 160 km/h (100 mph) add:0,11,5
H and VFor every 10 km/h (6 mph) above 160 km/h (100 mph) up to 190 km/h (118 mph) add:0,11,5
In addition for every 10 km/h (6 mph) above 190 km/h (118 mph) up to 210 km/h (130 mph) add a further:0,23,0

NOTE:

Normally laden tyre pressures apply when the vehicle is loaded with up to three persons or the driver plus 170 kg (375 lbs).

NOTE:

Fully laden tyre pressures apply when the vehicle is loaded in excess of the normal condition and up to the maximum rated loaded condition.

NOTE:

Normal usage is defined as usage on all roads at all speeds where high speed is not sustained.

NOTE:

The tyre pressures shown above should be used when the tyre is approximately at ambient temperature (not warm to the touch as is usual after operation).

NOTE:

When operating at sustained high speed, the tyre pressures must be increased by the amounts indicated above.

Spare Wheel
Vehicles fitted with 14 inch and 15 inch alloy wheels may have a steel spare of equivalent size.
Temporary Spare
The Escort 4 x 4 variants carry a temporary spare. When the temporary spare is in use the following points must be adhered to.
  • Drive with caution
  • Do not exceed the maximum speed limit of 80 km/h (50 mph)
  • Only use the spare on a temporary basis
  • Replace the temporary spare with a normal wheel and tyre as soon as possible
  • Do not drive the vehicle with more than one temporary spare at a time
Winter Tyres
Always fit winter tyres to all four wheels. Do not exceed the maximum speed specified by the tyre manufacturer.
When using winter tyres, the tyre pressures supplied by the tyre manufacturer must be adhered to.
Snow Chains
Snow chains with small links must be used.
Snow chains must be fitted to the front (driven) wheels.
Snow chains must be fitted to only 175/70 R13, 175/65 R14 or 185/60 R14 tyres.
When snow chains are fitted do not exceed 50 km/h (30 mph).
Snow chains must be removed immediately on snow free roads.
