Ford Motor Company has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1994 and 1995 Escort and Tracer passenger cars
equipped with Driver Side Supplemental Air Bag Module.
Safety Defect
The driver side air bag, part of the Supplemental Restraint System of your car, may not inflate properly in the event of a deployment level collision. This
could increase the risk of injury to the driver. A seam in the inflator element of the air bag module may separate during an air bag deployment, allowing
hot gases to escape and interfere with the proper deployment of the air bag.
Repairs
Repairs at no charge to you, your dealer will replace the air bag module. Dealers currently have instructions and parts ordering information.
Warning To Occupants
ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SAFETY BELT. All occupants of a vehicle, including the driver, should always wear their safety belts, whether or not
Supplemental Restraint System air bags are provided at their seating positions. Failure to do so may increase the risk of severe injury or death in the
event of a collision.
How Long Will It Take?
The time needed for this service is about one half hour. However, due to service scheduling times, your dealer may need your vehicle for on full working
day.
Rental Cars
Your dealer will provide you with a free (except for fuel) courtesy car until the replacement air bag module arrives.
Call Your Dealer
Call your dealer without delay. Ask for a service date.
When you bring your vehicle in, show the dealer this letter.
If you misplace this letter, your dealer will still do the work, free of charge.
Changed Address Or Sold The Vehicle?
Please fill out the enclosed prepaid post card and mail it to us if you have changed your address or sold the car.
