Engine - No Start/Lack of Power On Acceleration

CALIBRATIONS: 8-07F-RO, 8-07A-RO, 8-08A-RO

ISSUE:

No start or lack of power on acceleration may be caused by a damaged EEC IV processor. A voltage spike from the fuel pump wire harness
may damage the power supply in the EEC IV processor. The damaged processor can drain the vehicle's battery or cause the processor to go
into limited operation strategy (LOS) (processor default).

ACTION:

To correct this, install a diode jumper wire harness in the fuel pump wire harness and install a new EEC IV processor. Refer to the following
service procedure.

1.

Remove the bottom of the rear seat from the vehicle by flipping the seat bottom up and removing the hinge bolts and canvas strap. For vehicles
with split rear seats, both seat bottoms will need to be removed to make the diode installation easier.

2.

Remove screws from the bottom left hand quarter trim panels in the rear seat area. Tilt the rear seat back(s) slightly forward and grab the edge of
the carpeting underneath the rear seat back. Pull the carpeting from the rear seat toward the back of the front seat until connector (C102) can be
clearly seen.

Disconnect connector C102, Figure 8.

4.

Install diode jumper (E8FZ-14A411-A) between C102 connector halves, Figure 8.

5.

Secure locator on diode jumper to floor pan hole where connector C102 was previously located. Pull all harness slack towards left hand side of car
and coil the extra harness and tape it.

6.

Restore carpeting to original position and reinstall rear seat(s).

NOTE:

After installing the diode jumper, test the EEC IV processor to determine if the power supply inside the processor was damaged.

7.

Make sure the ignition key is in the "Off" position.

8.

Wait ten (10) seconds for the EEC IV time relay to time out.
