This article cancels and supersedes TSB 86-2-18 and is being re-issued to correct Step 4 of the repair procedure.
MTX equipped vehicles built between March 1, 1985, and February 3, 1986 (models RJS and RWB) may occasionally experience a 2nd or 4th gear
jump-out condition. This condition is caused by stretching of the shift lever boot due to boot-to-powertrain stack-up tolerances, excessive engagement of
the upshift light top gear switch (MTXII 4-speed only) and to shift detent forces within the transaxle.
To resolve this condition:

Check to be sure that the shift lever boot is seated correctly in the top opening of the console or consolette. Figure 25
