Universal Joint: Description and Operation

Universal Joints

U-joints are composed of the following:

Spiders

Trunnions

Grease seals

Needle rollers

Bearing cups

Thrust washers

Snap rings

The U-joint is a method of connecting the driveshaft to the drive axle. A U-joint allows the angles of the output shafts, driveshafts and pinions to rotate
smoothly while constantly accelerating and decelerating. The U-joint is lubricated for the life of the vehicle.
