Explorer 2WD V6-245 4.0L SOHC VIN E EFI (1997)
Make sure vacuum lines are not kinked.
Connect both Vapor Management Valve (VMV) vacuum lines to underside of upper intake manifold.

Connect two (2) PCV lines to upper intake manifold.
12.
Connect Idle Air Control (IAC) and Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connectors.
13.
Connect EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) vacuum line and electrical connector.
14.
Connect VIS solenoid vacuum line and electrical connector.
15.
Connect Variable Induction Sensor (VIS) vacuum line to top of upper intake manifold.
16.
Connect brake booster vacuum line to upper intake manifold.
17.
Connect main vacuum tap to left side rear of upper intake manifold.
18.
Engage accelerator and speed control cables to throttle body and intake manifold.
19.
Install appearance cover on top of intake manifold.
20.
Install air cleaner outlet tube.
21.
Connect battery negative cable, then remove memory saver.
22.
Start vehicle. Check vehicle for proper operation.
Engine Removal
1.
Mark position of hood for proper installation, then remove the hood.

Note:
All Explorer's are equipped with R-134a refrigerant. Do not use recovery stations that use RO12 refrigerant.
On A/C equipped vehicles, recover air conditioning refrigerant as follows:

Connect recovery station hoses to the vehicle gauge ports.

Turn On the recovery station.

Allow the recovery station to recover refrigerant from the system until the station pressure goes into a vacuum. On some equipment, the pump
will be shut off automatically by a low-pressure switch in the electrical system. On other units, it may be necessary to manually turn off the
pump.

Once the recovery station has recovered the vehicle's refrigerant, close the stations inlet valve (if equipped). Then switch oft the power supply.

Drain engine cooling system.
4.
Relieve fuel system pressure as follows:
^
Remove schrader valve cap and attach EFI/CFI fuel pressure gauge.
^
Slowly open manual valve on EFI/CFI fuel pressure gauge to relieve fuel pressure.
^
Remove fuel pressure gauge.
^
Install cap on schrader valve.
5.
Remove radiator, fan blade and fan shroud.
6.
Disconnect engine electrical connector.
7.
Disconnect powertrain control module electrical connector.
8.
Disconnect PCM electrical ground wire.
