Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair
Axle Shaft Seal
REMOVAL
1. Remove the axle shaft.
CAUTION: Do not damage the axle shaft oil seal.
2. Use Impact Slide Hammer and Axle Wheel Bearing Puller to remove the rear axle bearing and axle shaft oil seal.
NOTE: If the axle shaft oil seal is leaking, the axle housing vent may be plugged.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate the new rear axle bearing.

Use Motorcraft Synthetic Rear Axle Lubricant or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSL-M2C192-A.
2. Use Axle Tube Bearing Replacer to install the rear axle bearing.
3. Use Axle Tube Seal Replacer to install the axle shaft oil seal.
4. Install the axle shaft.
CAUTION: Do not damage the axle shaft oil seal.
